We are excited to share why we decided to invest in Popcall, a company reshaping how creators, coaches, and experts connect with their followers and get paid. The creator economy has exploded in recent years, but many creators still face challenges turning their influence into steady income. Popcall offers a fresh approach that fills a critical gap in this space.
The Problem
The creator economy has grown significantly in the past decade, yet creator monetization still remains a pain point. Now estimated at roughly $250 billion globally and projected by Goldman Sachs to approach $480 billion by 2027, it has become a broad economic ecosystem powered by creators building communities based on trust. Yet, the earnings in this economy are unevenly distributed. A small group of top creators capture most of the revenue, while the majority struggle to find reliable ways to monetize their work. Many creators juggle multiple income streams—such as sponsorships, merchandise, and subscriptions—to make ends meet.
Creators today have many ways to publish, promote, and distribute. But they have far fewer tools to monetize the connection they have built through direct personal interactions. However the tools for monetizing that connection are limited:
Subscription-based platforms are powerful, but require creators to produce content constantly.
Sponsorships reward scale more than depth and are only a one-way interaction.
Direct messages create 2-way engagement - but no meaningful monetization.
This leaves creators with limited ways to earn from the real-time, personal conversations that often hold the most value.
The Solution: How Popcall Bridges the Monetization Gap

Popcall builds the infrastructure that enables creators to monetize their direct, real-time interactions with followers. The platform allows creators, coaches, and experts to offer instant, pay-per-minute voice or video calls. This gives followers immediate access to personalized conversations, advice, or coaching sessions. The interaction feels natural and valuable, but not currently supported by existing infrastructure. This model allows for deeper engagement with followers, capturing new revenue opportunities without having to produce more content, and creators with audiences small to large, can use the platform.
Our Take: Why We are Backing Popcall
At Capitalize, our tech investment thesis is focused on the evolution of commerce and the creator economy and investing in the infrastructure that supports this. We are excited about Popcall because:
Creator infrastructure: Popcall supports the next generation of creators, professionals, and entrepreneurs who are transforming social influence into scalable businesses.
New modes of engagement: we like businesses that create new forms of engagement rather than incremental improvements to old ones. Popcall builds the infrastructure for a new kind of on-demand engagement economy, one that values authenticity, accessibility, and flexibility.
Great traction and compelling customer metrics: Popcall has demonstrated a clear pathway to monetization and a strong early user pipeline, with an increasing number of partnerships with creator tools and communities.
Takes stock in existing market dynamics: Popcall did not create a completely different process or workflow for creators to learn, instead they honed in on creating a solution that supports existing creator and consumer behaviors.
We believe the next generation of enduring companies will move beyond helping creators produce or distribute content, to helping creators to build businesses around assets that were previously difficult to monetize, whether that is audience, expertise, community, or access. Popcall is doing exactly that. We are excited about Popcall and believe the company is positioned to become the leading platform bridging real connection and sustainable creator income streams.
Looking Forward: The Creator Ecosystem
The future of the creator economy will not be defined solely by larger audiences or more content. It will increasingly be defined by trust, access, and direct human engagement. Consumers are increasingly comfortable paying for personalized digital experiences while creators are under pressure to diversify income beyond sponsorships and platforms they do not control. Those trends are converging in ways that make entirely new categories possible and we believe Popcall is well positioned to help define that future. We are excited to partner with them and support what comes next.
